Author Guidelines
Articles can be submitted by using the online submission system above.
Alternatively, articles can be submitted by sending it by e-mail - in Open Office, Microsoft Word (.doc of .docx) or PDF- format - to the secretary of the editorial board at bmgn@huygens.knaw.nl.
Authors are invited to submit manuscripts that fall within the focus of the journal. Please read the information on the Peer Review Process and follow the below guidelines.
The Journal provides immediate open access to its content. Author(s) retain copyright of their articles. Articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Publication fees
When publishing in BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review authors are not required to pay any charges or fees, such as Article Processing Charges (APC).

Book review guidelines
Book reviews are often solicited but it is also possible to express an interest in reviewing a book. Please refer to the guidelines for book reviewers in Dutch or English for more information and contact us at bmgn@huygens.knaw.nl if you want to write a book review for BMGN-Low Countries Historical Review.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Articles should not exceed 8,000 words including notes. For a review article the target length is 3,000 words including notes. Two abstracts, one in Dutch and one in English, of between 100 and 150 words should be included. Please also indicate the following: name and full address (postal address, telephone number and email addresses, both private and work); academic title; number of words.

Manuscripts submitted for BMGN - Low Countries Historical Review have not been published elsewhere and are not under review for possible publication elsewhere.

Files are accepted in Open Office, Microsoft Word, or RTF file format.

The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the stylistic and bibliographic guidelines.

All illustrations, figures, and tables are submitted separately.

Authors who wish to publish in English are responsible for the translation or language editing by a native speaker. BMGN-LCHR will only provide a final copy editing of the article. Authors, particularly those whose first language is not English, need to have their English-language manuscripts checked by a native speaker before submission to ensure that the academic content of the paper is fully understood by the editor and the reviewers. BMGN-LCHR has a list of third-party services specialising in language editing and / or translation, that authors may contact as appropriate. Please note that the use of any of these services at the author's own expense. Use of these services does not guarantee that the manuscript will be accepted for publication. Recommended guidebook: Natalie Reid, Getting Published in International Journals: Writing Strategies for European Social Scientists (Oslo 2010).

In case of a multi-authored article, all authors have given permission to be listed on the submitted paper. The corresponding author is authorized to speak on behalf of the authors.

All DOIs for online references have been provided, when available.

If the Work contains any material that is owned or controlled by a third party, the Author certifies that he/she has obtained permission for its use and that the material is clearly acknowledged within the text. This warrant concerns the entire manuscript, text as well as pictures, sound, video, data sets etc. The author also warrants to us that he/she has full authority to enter into this agreement and that the rights he/she is granting to BMGN - Low Countries Historical Review are done so without breaching any obligations he/she may have.
